Getting started
Which unlock mode should I choose?
If nobody else knows your iPhone passcode, Face ID mode is the simplest: there’s nothing to remember. If someone else knows your passcode, choose a master password, so that the passcode can’t open the vault. You can move from Face ID mode to a master password later. How the two modes differ.
How do I add photos?
In the Library, tap + and choose Move from Photos or Import from Files, or take photos with the secure camera. Each item is encrypted and checked first; then AmberHush offers to delete the originals from Photos. Deleted originals go to Recently Deleted in Photos for 30 days.
What happens if I delete the app?
The vault is deleted with it, and it can’t be recovered from the device. Make a backup first in Settings › Backup.
Passwords and recovery
I forgot my master password
On the lock screen, tap Forgot Master Password? and enter your recovery code, then choose a new master password. Without the recovery code, the vault can’t be opened by anyone, including us.
I forgot a private space’s password
Go to Settings › Private Space › Forgot Private Space Password. This works if, when you created the space, you allowed the recovery code to reset it.
Face ID stopped unlocking the vault
When the faces enrolled on your iPhone change, AmberHush turns Face ID off for safety. In master password mode, unlock once with the master password and turn Face ID on again. In Face ID mode, confirm with your iPhone passcode.
Where is my recovery code?
Only where you saved it. You can check it, or create a new one, in Settings › Recovery code. A new code takes over once you confirm you saved it; keep the old one until each of your backups has been backed up again.
Moving to a new iPhone
- On your old iPhone, back up to a drive or folder in Settings › Backup, and make sure you have your recovery code.
- On the new iPhone, install AmberHush and choose Restore an existing vault.
- Pick the backup and enter your master password or recovery code.
In Face ID mode, the random master password stays on the old iPhone, so you need the recovery code to restore anywhere else.
AmberHush Pro
Restore a purchase
Open Settings › AmberHush Pro and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you bought Pro with.
Cancel Pro Monthly
In AmberHush, open Settings › AmberHush Pro › Manage Subscription, or go to iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions › AmberHush. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current subscription period ends to avoid the next charge.
I bought Lifetime but Monthly is still charging
Buying Lifetime doesn’t stop the subscription; cancel it as above. To ask for a refund of a charge, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
Refunds
Apple handles all payments and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What happens when Pro ends?
Nothing is taken away. You can still view, export, back up and restore everything, and open existing private spaces. You can add again once your library has fewer than 30 items, or when you have Pro again.
Requirements
- iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 18 or later
- English or Simplified Chinese; change it in Settings › Language
- Backups: a USB drive, SSD or any folder in the Files app
